Amer Cunningham Co., L.P.A
The law firm of Amer Cunningham Co., L.P.A. has deep roots in Akron, Ohio. It is a descendant of the late-nineteenth-century firm of Green, Grant & Sieber, led in part by Akron real estate developer and Republican politician George Sieber, who joined the firm in 1891.
In 1920, Bernard J. Amer, one of the founding partners of the modern-day Amer Cunningham Brennan, joined Sieber as a partner in the law offices of Sieber, Sieber & Amer. Twelve years later, during the Great Depression, Amer formed an association with Michael Sophrin. In 1933, they were joined by Ernest L. Cunningham, who had begun his practice with the law firm of Mottinger & Evans and then established his own office.
When Sophrin died in 1938, the firm, then known as Amer, Cunningham & Sophrin, began to expand. By the time of Cunningham's death in 1971, the firm had become Amer, Cunningham, Cunningham & Brennan. The firm became Amer Cunningham Brennan Co., L.P.A. when the group incorporated that year.
In 1987, the growing firm moved to its present location, at the corner of South Main and Bowery Streets in the heart of downtown Akron. The move was a homecoming, in that this same building housed Sieber, Sieber & Amer in the 1920's.
With the new millennium, the firm now known as Amer Cunningham Co., L.P.A., continues to grow and provide high quality legal services to the area.
