Luis Lopez Attorney at Law
Family Law
Luis E. Lopez Attorney at Law practices family law, which involves the legal aspects of the relationships between husbands and wives, as well as other family relationships, including domestic partnerships. The interrelationship and complexity of family life and its legal aspects brings to bear other areas of law such as constitutional law, contract law, and property law, within the practice of family law. Luis E. Lopez Attorney at Law represents clients in a variety of family law issues, including divorce, separation, and annulment; child custody; child and spousal support; visitation and issues relating to parenting time; paternity; and marital property rights.
When most people think of family law, the first thing that comes to mind is divorce. However, individuals with sizable incomes or assets may require a wide range of family law services, including pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements. We also offer services relating to domestic violence matters, adoption, custody and support issues relating to parental re-locations, and juvenile dependency and delinquency.
When appropriate and with the goal of reducing the stress associated with family law matters, the attorneys at Luis E. Lopez Attorney at Law will seek to resolve issues through mediation, in order to facilitate a successful outcome reached through consensus and resolution. However, recognizing that negotiations can stall, thereby making mediation no longer an option, Luis E. Lopez Attorney at Law's experienced litigators offer zealous, respectful advocacy on behalf of the client for an optimal settlement or trial outcome, if necessary.
If you have questions about a divorce matter, including child custody or support obligations, or with any other issue arising from a family relationship, please contact Luis E. Lopez Attorney at Law at 951-824-6300 for a consultation with one of our experienced family law attorneys.
Bankruptcy
For years, Luis E. Lopez Attorney at Law has represented debtors in bankruptcy proceedings. Under federal law, bankruptcy protection is available to individuals and businesses, including sole proprietors and corporations. When a situation arises in which an individual or business is unable to pay the bills as they become due, bankruptcy is a legal proceeding that could provide relief from their creditors.
In Chapter 7 bankruptcy, which is sometimes referred to as "straight" bankruptcy, a debtor is allowed to keep certain property pursuant to "exemptions" and then property over the exemption limit is used to pay creditors. In Chapter 13 bankruptcy, which is often called the "wage-earners" plan, a schedule of debts, assets, and income is prepared and a plan is prepared for the debtor, who must have a steady income, to pay back the some or all of the debt. In Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which is often highly complex, businesses restructure their debt through "reorganization" plans with the aim of allowing the business to continue as a going concern.
Additionally, business debtors may be subject to involuntary bankruptcy proceedings; for example, creditors holding a sufficient aggregate of debt can force a debtor into bankruptcy. Such involuntary proceedings often come as something of a surprise and the debtor generally has less planning time and flexibility to manage the bankruptcy context. When that happens, it is important to retain seasoned bankruptcy legal counsel, such as Luis E. Lopez Attorney at Law . We can help you understand the challenges associated with a "surprise" bankruptcy and will work quickly and effectively to help you reach a satisfactory resolution.
