Meet Tommy Smith

Thomas M. Smith is the District Attorney for the Sixth Judicial Circuit of Alabama. He was first elected to office in 1998 and was reelected in 2004 and 2010. Tommy received his B.A. from the University of Alabama in 1971 and his Juris Doctor in 1974 from the University of Alabama School of Law.

Tommy was an Assistant District Attorney in Tuscaloosa County from 1974-1980, 1981-1997, and in Bessemer 1997-1998. He was in private practice with the firm of Crownover and Mountain from 1979-1981. He is the immediate past President of the Alabama District Attorney's Association.

A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tuscaloosa, Tommy's civic activities include membership of the Exchange Club of Tuscaloosa and the Kiwanis Club of Greater Tuscaloosa. He is a past Board Member of United Cerebral Palsy, past member of the Tuscaloosa Jaycees, past President of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Tuscaloosa and past President of the PTSA at Central West High School.

Tommy is dedicated to serving the citizens of Tuscaloosa County through the prosecution of criminals and the support of crime victims in every way possible. He and his office are available to answer any questions citizens may have regarding the criminal justice process.
