How To Pick The Right Shoes

It often happens that the shoes that fit in the store are eventually not as comfortable. You no longer want to wear your new shoes because they don’t seem to fit like they used to. Sometimes we spontaneously buy the shoes we like and then our feet begin to burn.

How do you choose the right shoe size?

Many people think that the most important thing is to choose the right size. Wearing small shoes for a long time can lead to severe deformity of the foot or a painful bunion. If you notice that the joint of your big toe becomes red and swollen, consult a podiatrist as soon as possible. Severely clenched toes can interfere with blood circulation in the feet.

However, not everyone knows what happens if the shoe is too large. In this case, the rolling motion of the foot is disturbed. There is still a little space in front of the toes. When walking, the foot hits the floor more rigidly than it should with a smooth rolling motion. The load on the joints increases and over time, the metatarsal bones will ache.

Firstly, choose the right size. Many people have different lengths of their right and left feet, so focus on the one that is longer. If the model you like does not come in half sizes and you have to buy shoes a little bigger than necessary, you can use an insole to make it fit.

Why is it important to choose the right width?

If the width is too large, the foot dangles inside. The toes involuntarily try to hold the shoes on, which leads to overstrain and, as a result, spasms. If the width is too small, the toes and metatarsals contract with each step. The increased load causes not only pain but also the deformity of the foot.

If the shoe fits you in size, but you feel pressure, do not buy one size larger. It’s better to look for another pair of shoes.

Other tips you should be aware of

While shopping, pay attention to these small tips, which will help you choose the best shoes for your feet.

  • In the morning, your foot is smaller in size, and in the evening it slightly swells. Therefore, shoes should be bought around the time of the day when you intend to wear them in the future. It is better to buy shoes for parties in the late afternoon, and shoes that you will wear all day in the afternoon.
  • Never try on shoes while sitting. When we walk, our feet lengthen. Therefore, be sure to walk in your shoes.
  • Take some time to walk in your shoes around the shop. There is no need to hurry.
  • A good shoe store has experienced and attentive sales assistants. A good salesperson will first look at your feet and measure your foot length and choose the right size.
  • If you are looking for low drop running shoes, you should test the soles. To do this, bend it with your hands. If the sole bends well, then the shoes are high quality.
  • Feel the inside of the shoes carefully. You should not find protruding bumps, dents, too thick seams, threads, and particles of dried glue.
  • Materials are essential for foot comfort. Natural leather can adjust to the foot during walking. The leather of the shoe stretches naturally during the day, repeating the contour of the leg.
  • Pay attention to the presence of an instep support. It's not just a high heel that can harm your feet health. Flat sandals can equally cause deformity of the foot and severe pain if they do not have an instep support or the sole is too stiff.
  • You don't need to give up heels. Just don’t wear high-heeled shoes all the time. The foot needs time to regenerate. It is recommended to walk in high heels no more than 3-4 hours a day.
  • Do not be afraid to check everything scrupulously and ask the shop-assistants too many questions. In good stores the sellers will not be offended, as they are confident in the quality of their shoes. And you, in turn, must check this on your own, because your feet health is of primary importance in this case.
