Top 6 Reasons Why You’re Not Sleeping Well at Night

Your day may feel slow and tedious if you didn't get enough sleep. When getting little to no sleep each night turns into a habit, it can lead to more severe issues (hallucinations, excess weight, heart diseases, etc.). Lack of sleep is a severe problem that needs to be treated promptly and effectively. Even if you are aware of all the negative effects of sleeplessness, you may still not be able to sleep at night.

Continue reading to discover the seven frequent causes of insomnia.

1. Difficulty breathing
Lack of airflow can keep you from getting enough sleep every night. Your body may become permanently awake due to respiratory issues that reduce the amount of oxygen you inhale. You could find it more challenging to fall asleep as a result.

If you have a cold, nasal spray and hot tea may be sufficient to help you breathe better. Nevertheless, you might need to visit one of the best plastic surgeons if you experience issues with your nose's function. To increase airflow, the surgeon may alter your nose's shape entirely or partially.

2. Bad mattress
Finding a comfortable position to sleep in may be very challenging if you have an old mattress and pillow. A mattress that is too soft or rigid might also hurt your neck or back. Therefore, getting a comfy bed is crucial. The mattress needs to be firm but not rigid. Your neck should be supported by the pillow to avoid curvature.

3. Anxiety and stress
Stress can keep you up during the night. Simply put, it's impossible to rest and go to sleep while you're thinking about certain issues and responsibilities all the time. You should be aware that in many situations, staying up late won't solve your problems, and you'll likely feel more exhausted and anxious the next day.

Try using certain breathing exercises to relax your body if you wish to deal with tension. You can also try meditating to get rid of all the bad thoughts and clear your head. Equally useful is aromatherapy. However, some of the scents might stimulate you and keep you awake, so you should exercise caution when using them.

4. Pain
You may not be able to sleep all night if you are in pain. It is true that you can take painkillers and perhaps even fall asleep. This, however, is not a proper way to address your issue. Most of the time, the pain might come on its own, thus determining its root cause is crucial. For a precise diagnosis and treatment, see a doctor right away.

5. Too much caffeine
Those who consume large amounts of tea or coffee are more likely to have trouble sleeping. Caffeine, a stimulant of the central nervous system, can be found in these beverages. You start to feel less worn out as it gets to your brain.

Your body retains caffeine for 10 hours. Hence, the last cup of tea or coffee should be consumed at least 10 hours before going to bed. It is best to choose chamomile tea or simple water if you want to have a drink before bed.

6. Too much screen time
Your ability to sleep may also be impacted if you frequently spend an hour or more with your laptop or phone. The light from the screen is recognized by your brain, which stops melatonin from being produced. A hormone called melatonin is in charge of regulating sleep at night. You stay awake when this hormone is deficient. Therefore, if you want to get to sleep earlier, it's best to put off your internet browsing until the morning.

The bottom line
A restful night's sleep can help you feel good and improve your mood for the whole day. Try to have more rest at night, and don't ignore the issues that can contribute to sleeplessness. Instead of suffering for months or even years without the required amount of sleep, it is preferable to see a professional if you are in pain or uncomfortable and receive needed treatment.
